Summer Blues :(

School is in full swing.   I have only been back in class for two days and I feel stressed out already!

I miss my sewing machine, hooks, and needles that made all of my pretty projects.

16 more weeks until we meet again :( .... unless I find a way to sneak back into my craft room before then!

Bitty Baby Booties

Last night I decided to give the sewing machine a break and made these real cute baby booties.  I know a few ladies that are expecting very soon.  I was able to complete a bootie in an hour.  Not too bad; for me anyway.  I found the pattern on Small + Friendly's blogsite.

They measured about 2.5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide.  These will need to be for a tiny/newborn baby.  I followed the way Small + Friendly did theirs by casting on 26 sts first. I also used US8 needles.  The pattern doesn't say to, but remember to cross the top in the opposite direction from each other.  I guess it wouldn't matter but that way it won't look like the baby has two left booties on ;)

Lap Quilt - WIP

I finally remembered to take a picture of the quilt I have been working on.
I have been learning how to quilt from various scources:

* 9 patch - I watched a video by Gourmet Quilter
* Log cabin - figured this out by looking
* Scrappy patched by Valerie Nesbitt
* Amazing Jelly Roll Quilt Pattern by 3 Dudes! demostrated by Missouri Quilt Co.
* The others are just me playing with squares into triangles.

When I have 20 blocks, I'm going to using Gourment Quilter's method of quilting as you go.

Book Cover

This past weekend was about completeing started projects.  Below is a book cover that I made from a couple of log cabin blocks that have been laying around with no purpose.

I used this pattern from Moda Bake Shop to construct this cover:

I know the lining fabric is not glamorous.  I have a lot of this print and need to use it up.
It's my ugly secret :)

This pattern does not have handles in the instruction; I added my own. Next time I will position the handles higher or make them longer.  They are a bit short.

I also didn't add batting.  I thought it would look ok without it.  Next time I'll add batting for more effect.

Chevron Baby Blanket

I'm almost done with my friend's baby blanket.  She doesn't know if she's having a boy or girl.  I thought using these colors were neutral and as I kept crocheting, I second guessed my decision.
I used this pattern from Eat, Knit, & DIY and it worked out very well.  I did have some trouble with filling in the triangles but I eventually finished. I still have a lot to learn :)

Older Completed Projects

This was my very first try at quilting (log cabin).  I made it from my very first jellyroll and did stitch in the ditch.  I gave it away as a gift.  I've wanted to make another one ever since I gave it away.

New Jellyroll

Yesterday I decided to leave the office and visit the local fabric shops.  It was 90 degrees out and 50% humidity.  What was I thinking???  The first shop had no A/C, so it was a short visit.  The second shop (w/AC) had new sewing machines on sale.  That is so dangerous!!!  I want a new one :(  but the old one still works.  Then I found the jellyroll section.  I'm a sucker for them everytime.  I think it's because you get so many different patterns and they are already cut into 2.5 inches.   I had to narrow it down to just one and here's what I chose:
The Sunflower group.  Love!  So many possiblities.  I plan on using it with the CR bag quilt I am mapping out right now.  This looks so good with the purple and the gold stiching.

The blanket below is just one big granny sqare, alternating yarn with each row:

I have a couple more that are still WIP.  I will post soon :)
