Seriously, it's been 6 months????

I just realized that I have not posted since January 2nd.  How time flies!  A lot has happened:
  • Survived the worst winter I've ever seen. I cringe every time I see snow now
  • We did some remodeling inside the house.  The outside is next; one day
  • I graduated college (my last semester was a cake walk).  I never aimed to graduate with any kind of honor but on the morning of graduation I found out I was graduating Cum Laude.  I was emotionally surprised.  Going to school with kids and a full-time job is very taxing on everything.  And seeing that next to my name it dawned on me, “I guess I did pretty good!”  Enough horn tooting; it was just a proud moment
  • My mom came out to visit from California
  • I changed jobs (same company – different office/dept. I’m a commuter now)

Now I’m catching up on a bunch of loose ends.  My goals for this summer are:
  • Finish all the books I've started in the last couple of years (finished one so far)
  • Complete the baby blankets and the quilt I've started
  • Clean out the office (started)
  • Clean out the basement (started)
  • Redo the flowerbed (started)

See the trend? I’m always startin stuff!  It’s a problem - I’m working on it J

Summer Blues :(

School is in full swing.   I have only been back in class for two days and I feel stressed out already!

I miss my sewing machine, hooks, and needles that made all of my pretty projects.

16 more weeks until we meet again :( .... unless I find a way to sneak back into my craft room before then!

Bitty Baby Booties

Last night I decided to give the sewing machine a break and made these real cute baby booties.  I know a few ladies that are expecting very soon.  I was able to complete a bootie in an hour.  Not too bad; for me anyway.  I found the pattern on Small + Friendly's blogsite.

They measured about 2.5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide.  These will need to be for a tiny/newborn baby.  I followed the way Small + Friendly did theirs by casting on 26 sts first. I also used US8 needles.  The pattern doesn't say to, but remember to cross the top in the opposite direction from each other.  I guess it wouldn't matter but that way it won't look like the baby has two left booties on ;)

Lap Quilt - WIP

I finally remembered to take a picture of the quilt I have been working on.
I have been learning how to quilt from various scources:

* 9 patch - I watched a video by Gourmet Quilter
* Log cabin - figured this out by looking
* Scrappy patched by Valerie Nesbitt
* Amazing Jelly Roll Quilt Pattern by 3 Dudes! demostrated by Missouri Quilt Co.
* The others are just me playing with squares into triangles.

When I have 20 blocks, I'm going to using Gourment Quilter's method of quilting as you go.

Will I dance for you, Jesus? Or in awe of you, be still?

Book Cover

This past weekend was about completeing started projects.  Below is a book cover that I made from a couple of log cabin blocks that have been laying around with no purpose.

I used this pattern from Moda Bake Shop to construct this cover:

I know the lining fabric is not glamorous.  I have a lot of this print and need to use it up.
It's my ugly secret :)

This pattern does not have handles in the instruction; I added my own. Next time I will position the handles higher or make them longer.  They are a bit short.

I also didn't add batting.  I thought it would look ok without it.  Next time I'll add batting for more effect.
